| Updated Master and PhD Metallurgy study programmes
Comparative assessment of existing EU and UA Metallurgy curricula
The aim of activity is to determine methodology approaches to update Master and PhD Metallurgy Programmes on the basis of comparative assessment of existing UA and EU programmes.
To fulfil this activity all partners exchanged with teaching plans and other available materials related to corresponding Degree Programmes. Exchange was done on the 1st coordination meeting held in Stockholm (November 2005) and further comparison has been provided in constant contact via e-mail. Academic retraining of UA professors at INSA and KTH was very essential to develop common approach in curriculum development.
Following steps were done on the basis of this assessment:
- recommendations to update of the UA curricula developed;
- long term Strategy for development of UA Metallurgy education developed, discussed and approved.
This comparison even has become a basis for “Double-Diploma Agreement” signed between TU BAF and NMAU in May 2006. Following this agreement NMAU Metallurgy students after completion of Bachelor studies are able to start studies at TU BAF on final year and upon completion of the whole course to obtain two – DE and UA - diplomas.

Updated Study Programme

- Natural-science, professional and practical (40 ECTS)
- Disciplines after choice of the Higher Educational Institution (5 ECTS)
- Disciplines after the choice of students (5 ECTS)
Freedom and flexibility in implementing of new disciplines possible only for the last two categories. Content could be updated even for 1st and 2nd categories – although number of taught credits, names and general structure of discipline must be kept. As far as only 60 ECTS credits of the MSc programme are instructive (the rest 30 are envisaged for theses) totally programme may accommodate only 10 ECTS credits of newly developed subjects. The rest of subjects could be upgraded. It was decided to develop more 10 ECTS credits of new disciplines with the purpose to give more options for choice (4th category) to address future professional needs according to chosen “specialisation”.
